Bucharest Urban Wetlands

Vacaresti Nature Park, a 470 acre wetland near the center of Bucharest, is home to over 350 species of animals and 330 species of plants. It gained national protection in 2016 but still lacks local governmental support and is in the process of creating a management plan. By expanding the knowledge of the benefits of urban green space, documenting local opinion, and comprehensive case study research, this project aims to catalogue the multidimensional benefits of Vacaresti Nature Park. A focus on stakeholder analysis will allow the park to better build toward and shape its future. Additionally, a strong partnership and understanding between the park and the public may encourage the city government to take a more active stance in the management of the wetlands in order to appease its constituents.

We are the Bucharest Urban Wetlands Team - Arnold, E.C., Matt, Phuong, and Sarah. We have been working diligently for the past semester with the help of our collaborator, the Vacaresti Nature Park Association, to gather survey, interview, and observation data. To learn more about our collaborator, our research, or the park visit our project website!
